C4EE’s student ambassadors are shining a bright light on clean energy as they welcome a government leader to the center. The Radiant Rays, on Feb. 16, led United States Congressman Don Davis on a tour of the facility’s museum, notably the display walls that chart the range of clean energy options. They also encouraged Davis to demonstrate its energy bike, a pedal power generator that operates a panel of light bulbs.
Davis stopped in Roanoke Rapids on his Live the Dream Down East tour to commend the Radiant Rays for their efforts to educate others about clean energy and environmental justice. He also met with them to discuss their futures and the obstacles that pull them from their home communities. “I am so proud of this group of young ladies, and we must work to create more opportunities to keep them in the East. Our future and environment depend on their success,” said Davis. “These young women are the future, and we must provide them with the tools necessary to be successful and serve as the next generation of leaders.”
Mozine Lowe, C4EE executive director, noted that these young women are the microphone for their generation, and today’s visit showed that leaders hear them. “Through creating and leading a range of volunteer and community service activities on behalf of C4EE in special events like a climate festival, a clean power fair, and an environmental art contest, they’re well on their way to powering clean energy innovation while striving for educational growth and seeking workplace development,” she said.
